Halloween Weekend at The Gathering Place!
Friday and Saturday, October 30 + 31
This year, the celebration(s) for Halloweekend at The Gathering Place extend beyond the Innistrad Chaos Drafts and into two days of spooky festivities! We’re gearing up for a Cursed Carnival on Friday and the traditional TGP Halloween Party on Saturday, and we’ll be putting out more details when we’re ready!
MTGPunks Series: October Premodern
Saturday, October 31, 12:00 p.m.
If you pine for the days of yore, when Magic: The Gathering cards had proper borders and all these newfangled characters and doodads weren’t muddyin’ up yer Em Tee Gee, Premodern might just be the place for you!
Premodern is a non-rotating and classic MTG format from Fourth Edition to Scourge, from the late ’90s to the early ’00s, and it’s proven to be a community-created fan-favorite hit in the North Carolina MTG scene and beyond!
Entry for the tournament is $30 per player, that entry goes to the prize pool, and more players participating means a bigger pot for the Premodern People’s Champ!
(Premodern at TGP is a full-proxy-friendly tournament — all proxies must be clearly identifiable and representative of the intended card.)

The Gathering Place MTG Commander League XI
September 22 — December 19
Beginning on the Autumnal Equinox and running through the wintry days of December, this year’s flagship iteration of Commander League is a new chapter in TGP’s signature event and a great opportunity to create a deck that’s all your own and battle-tested to be a tried and true winner! League is social, competitive, cooperative, and a unique + fun experience.

Gundam GD-06 Release Event
Sunday, November 1, 12:00 p.m.
Gundam ZZ joins the Gundam TCG in GD-06, Stardust Trails! The new set expands further with new Mobile Suits, new Gundams, new pilots and some pretty interesting utility and expansions on potential playstyles.

D&D Learn to Play
Wednesday, November 4, 6:00 p.m.
The first Wednesday of each month, TGP DM extraordinaire Kelly Trusdell will be your guide as you take your first steps into the Forgotten Realms.
The Learn to Play session starts at 6:00 p.m. and players don’t have to provide anything but themselves. Well, themselves and also a general openness, a will to learn and the expectation that role playing might feel a little goofy at first — but, the knowledge that the more you lean into it the more fun you’ll have. If you’ve always been D&D curious, if you’ve seen it portrayed in popular media, if you’ve been watching actual play shows or listening to podcasts like Dimension 20 or Critical Role, this is your opportunity to start your own story!
Girly Pop Magic Commander Night

We are honored to be hosting local femme-forward all-stars Girlypop Magic the first Thursday of each month at The Gathering Place! Join us for a free and fun night of MTG Commander-focused events for femme, non-binary, and gender expansive folks!
GPM comes by TGP every month, so come back the first Thursday and play some fun games with some truly excellent people!

Star Trek Prerelease Weekend

Magic: The Gathering is boldly going in a new direction, the only place not corrupted by renegade mind-mages, SPAAAAACE!
The Star Trek crossover is certainly a bold choice for the biggest TCG in the game, literally and figuratively, but the groundwork laid in Edge of Eternities seems to be providing a sound scaffolding to build out some interstellar adventures within the wider frame of MTG. Landers, shuttlecraft, spaceships, stations, Starfleet and more — it’s a full set, a full release, and there’s all the associated sealed product and preconstructed decks to prove it. Fun mechanics and flavor wins, there’s a nonzero chance the Star Trek set reaches escape velocity with MTG players. To that end, here’s the breakdown of the prerelease events and weekend structure at The Gathering Place, your own local slice of Quarks, a dive bar Ten Forward sort of place.
One Piece Heroine’s Battle Vol. 2 Release Event
Sunday, November 8 + Tuesday, November 10
The last time the One Piece TCG did a Heroine’s Battle set, it was a BIG DEAL — and Vol. 2 is shaping up to be more of what the people are clamoring for in their high-seas adventuring and card game playing! The ladies are taking over and One Piece is going girlypop once again with some of the most dangerous and feared women this side of the Grand Line.

cEDH Monthly Dual Land Tournament
Saturday, November 14, 12:00 p.m.
Each month, The Gathering Place holds a CEDH tournament where the prize is based on attendance, and every entrant has a chance to battle it out for a Dual Land straight out of the TGP display case!
$40 buy in, Dual Land goes to first place, payout prizing to Top 4, and other / additional prizing based on attendance. Come battle it out for Duals, for glory, for love of the game!
Full proxy is permitted, all proxies must be clearly representative of the intended card and contain all information the official printing does in an easy-to-identify fashion.

MTG Legacy Cash Tournament
Saturday, November 14, 12:00 p.m.
Legacy is the format of Magic: The Gathering where practically anything goes! Decks can include cards from all sets, all eras, and its non-rotating nature means an environment where success is defined by a wide range of approaches and playstyles.
The Gathering Place holds a monthly tournament alternating between Modern, Legacy and Vintage for cash and glory, and in November it’s Legacy’s time to shine!
Entry is $30 per play, entry goes into the prize pool, so more players means more prizing. Tell your 60-card format enjoying friends, shout it out in your Discords, rally your banners and come clash for cash!
(Legacy at TGP is full-proxy friendly. All proxy cards must be clearly representative of the intended Magic card and identifiable across the table by other players.)

One Piece OP-18 Release

One Piece’s TCG counterpart has anew expansion, the intimidatingly-named THE DOMINANCE OF GOD.
The unveiling date is November 6, and once things go live we’ll be posting the links to register with Bandai for the two events at TGP right here:

MTG 2-Slot Standard RCQ

Playing MTG in the big leagues means working your way up through the ranks, a large-scale tournament arc culminating in the Pro Tour — and that road begins with local Regional Championship Qualifier (RCQ) events like this one!
Official designation “US RCQ | 2026-27 Round 2 Standard 1-Slot RCQ,” get ready for an MTG tournament held at TGP on 11/22 (at Competitive REL, of course) in the Standard Constructed format! Entry is $30 per player, good luck and good hunting.

TGP Black Friday

The Gathering Place is closed on Thursday, November 26, but we’re coming back strong on the world’s most mildly evil “””holiday””” with all the required DEALS and whatnot we’re contractually obligated to performatively have as a retail-based establishment.
We’ll post soon about what’s on sale, but I can say we’re cooking up some Holiday Bundles that are pretty rad, and there’s gonna be other cool stuff.
FAB Skirmish Season 16

Flesh and Blood’s unique approach to competitive card games is a proven winner, both at The Gathering Place and well beyond! The Skirmish environment is the perfect place, an ideal opportunity, to test your skills in both deck construction and live gameplay in pitched battle with the local FAB community — and, let’s face it, the North Carolina FAB scene is one of the best around!

The MTGPunks tournament series at TGP is a monthly rotating cash tournament series of community-driven and fan-favorite formats for Magic.
November is a month of chance, of renewal, and as the wheel turns it is once again Old School’s turn in the sun. We’re talking $30 entry! Buy in going back into the prize pool! Old School at The Gathering Place, played using the Eternal Central guidelines!
Play Magic the way that Richard Garfield intended; with a nostalgic card pool from Alpha to Fallen Empires — relive the aesthetics and power of iconic cards and strategic depth from ’93-’94, embrace the charm of old-school gameplay, hang out with your friends!
